SWP - Systematic Withdrawal Plan and MIS - Monthly Income Scheme

Hola Readers,

The following post is an AI-generated post created with the help of ChatGPT. It explains how SWP and MIS - a fixed deposit savings plan giving flexibility and regular income through interest every month. Let's get to know personal finance in a better way.

-----  -----  -----  -----  -----  -----

Systematic Withdrawal Plan – SWP

Monthly WithdrawalCorpus Size Needed (Approx.)4% Return5% Return6% Return7% Return
₹5,000₹15,00,000₹12,00,000₹10,00,000₹8,50,000₹8,00,000
₹10,000₹30,00,000₹24,00,000₹20,00,000₹17,00,000₹16,00,000
₹15,000₹45,00,000₹36,00,000₹30,00,000₹25,50,000₹24,00,000
₹20,000₹60,00,000₹48,00,000₹40,00,000₹34,00,000₹32,00,000
₹25,000₹75,00,000₹60,00,000₹50,00,000₹42,50,000₹40,00,000

💡 Explanation (What This Table Means)

This table shows how much investment (corpus) you need to generate a fixed monthly withdrawal through a Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) at various expected annual return rates (4%, 5%, 6%, 7%).

An SWP works like this:

  • You invest a lump sum amount in a mutual fund (usually a debt or balanced fund).

  • Every month, you withdraw a fixed amount (for example, ₹5,000, ₹10,000, etc.).

  • The remaining balance continues to earn returns.

  • Thus, it provides a regular income while keeping your money invested.

📊 Example Explanation

Suppose you want a monthly income of ₹10,000:

  • If your mutual fund gives 4% return, you’ll need a corpus of ₹30,00,000.

  • If it gives 7% return, you’ll need only ₹16,00,000.

That means the higher the return, the lower the required investment for the same monthly withdrawal.

⚙️ Usefulness of SWP

✅ Provides regular monthly income for retirees or those needing a steady cash flow.
✅ Offers tax efficiency compared to fixed deposits.
✅ Allows capital appreciation on the remaining corpus.
✅ Keeps funds liquid and flexible — you can stop or modify withdrawals anytime.

Comparison between SWP and MIS

Comparing SWP (Systematic Withdrawal Plan) and MIS (Monthly Income Scheme) is key to choosing the smarter investment for a regular monthly income.
Here’s a clear and professional comparison that highlights which is more advantageous and why:

💼 1. Nature of Investment

AspectSWP (Systematic Withdrawal Plan)MIS (Monthly Income Scheme)
TypeMutual Fund-based plan (market-linked)Fixed-income plan (bank/post office)
Investment RiskModerate to variable (depends on fund type)Low (capital protection guaranteed)
FlexibilityHighly flexible — can start, stop, or change withdrawals anytimeRigid — fixed tenure (5 years in Post Office MIS)

✅ Advantage: SWP wins for flexibility and liquidity.

📈 2. Returns and Growth Potential

SWPMIS
Returns vary (typically 6–10% in debt/balanced funds)Fixed return (6.6–7.4% approx.)
The remaining corpus continues to growCorpus remains constant, no compounding after maturity

✅ Advantage: SWP offers higher potential returns and capital appreciation over time.

💰 3. Tax Efficiency

SWPMIS
Only capital gains are taxed — lower tax due to indexation benefits if held >3 yearsThe entire interest is taxable as income
Can plan withdrawals to minimize tax burdenNo such flexibility

✅ Advantage: SWP is more tax-efficient, especially for long-term investors.

🔄 4. Liquidity and Control

SWPMIS
Can redeem anytime; no penalty for stopping SWP  Premature withdrawal has a penalty
Can modify withdrawal amount anytimeFixed payout; cannot change

✅ Advantage: SWP gives greater control over your money.

🧓 5. Suitability

SWPMIS
Suitable for retirees or investors seeking inflation-beating monthly incomeSuitable for conservative investors who want a guaranteed income
Ideal for long-term wealth creation with periodic incomeIdeal for short to medium-term fixed income needs

Newcomers to Arts and Humanities

Hello Readers!

Finally, after such a long gap, I have found an insightful topic to share. Today's topic is about the class of people who feel bored, tired, and sick of the rat race of chasing after money, mindless scrolling, disturbed social relations, and a meaningless, stressful life. Many of us suffer from anxiety, and stress and seek out the best resort in watching films, listening to songs, and sharing funny short videos and reels with friends. Amidst this practice, there lies a wonderful factor of creativity. A person always finds some songs, films, and stories quite relatable because of the deep charm of creativity behind the content.

Now let me put a debatable topic here.

"People from non-arts backgrounds appreciate the creative and philosophical aspects of enjoyable content, feeling that, despite having all the luxuries and wealth, something meaningful is missing from their lives. Meanwhile, individuals in creative arts and philosophical fields tend to broaden their current knowledge and go beyond the available content."

There are two premises here.

1. People from the STEM field
2. People from creative arts, humanities, and philosophical branches.

There are two points of view as well.

1. People from the STEM field enjoy the depths of all arts and creative materials such as films, songs, and stories, and at one point in life, they think they could have pursued arts and humanities.

2. People from arts and humanities, and creative pursuits undergo a rigorous process of ego clashes with the truth and redefine their understanding while creating anything new and original. This philosophical churning in mind makes them more refined thinkers and clean creators. They think that the world has to see things from their own perspective and think about life with a completely different dimension.

Whoever wishes to make a career in arts and humanities must understand the following things.

1. It is not just a branch of academics but a life-defining pursuit. It is deeply connected with all other branches such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Indeed there is a value of rankings and grades but this branch is more than just academic accolades.

2. The majority of people give very little value to philosophies and stories in their daily lives and they keep talking about money, percentages, and major statistics. If one wants to study arts and humanities with a deeper knowledge, one may go deeper into the nuances of human behavior, the inner areas of the human psyche, and thought processes.

3. This also leads a person to a spiritual dimension and makes him/her rethink all the behaviors and endeavors of human beings. The key questions such as what, why, who, how, when, and where will become the drivers of the human mind rather than having a mind full of numbers that keep thinking about money all day.

4. Those who are not in arts and humanities may think that the people within this field are "lucky" and enjoying all the "luxuries" of life; but here is a myth buster: the real learners, thinkers, and creators don't enjoy the materialistic aspect of life and never expect to live like that. They consume only what they need the most and do only what is the most necessary at the given time and in situations. The only thing they enjoy is the clarity of their wisdom and life.

5. To study arts and humanities, one must be aware of the deeds of past figures and have a sharp historical and political sense to study whatever is happening in today's time. Because students will always have to see things of today with the pastness of the past.

6. During the study the students may get frustrated and tired of the rigorous thought process and discussions he/she has to go through. But no need to worry, to create a new understanding one must have a breakthrough of their own ego and pre-established beliefs. Once the mind is free from all the past conditions, a great highway is there to study further.

7. There should be readiness to leave the ego aside and know something new and fresh. Because no creative field is free from biases and mental conditioning. There might be a few aspects that may affect you directly at the personal level but it is the demand of this discipline that people go through this process and ask questions at deeper levels.

These points will be fruitful to the students and aspirants who want to study arts, humanities, languages, literature, and philosophies. This would definitely establish new perspectives and understanding of the entire world.

Change is inevitable, so the mind, so the body, and so the life. Embrace with all your power and spirit.

Happy learning.
Thank You!

Atom vs Nucleus

The atom and the nucleus are two distinct components of matter, but they are related. Here's how they differ:

  1. Atom:

    • An atom is the smallest unit of matter that retains the chemical properties of an element.
    • It consists of a nucleus at its center and an electron cloud surrounding the nucleus.
    • The atom includes protons and neutrons in the nucleus, and electrons orbiting the nucleus.
    • Atoms are electrically neutral when the number of protons (positive charge) equals the number of electrons (negative charge).
  2. Nucleus:

    • The nucleus is the central, dense core of an atom.
    • It contains protons (positively charged particles) and neutrons (neutral particles).
    • The nucleus holds almost all of the atom's mass but occupies a tiny fraction of its volume.
    • The number of protons in the nucleus defines the element, while the number of neutrons can vary, leading to different isotopes.

In summary, the atom includes the nucleus and the surrounding electrons, whereas the nucleus is just the dense central part containing protons and neutrons.

Kitaab (1977): One Film, Numerous Feelings

Directed by Gulzar, Kitaab is a thoughtful exploration of childhood innocence, perception, and the complexities of adult life as seen through the eyes of a child. The film is notable for its nostalgic yet realistic portrayal of how children view the world, blurring the line between fantasy and reality.

A YouTube link for the film

Plot Summary:

Kitaab follows Babla (Master Raju Shrestha), a young boy who is sent away from home to live with his elder sister and attend school in the city. The film begins on a light note, showcasing Babla's playful and carefree nature. However, as he adjusts to life in the city, he becomes disillusioned by the adult world and its hypocrisies. He faces academic pressures, misunderstandings with his family, and the rigidity of societal norms, which eventually lead to his inner turmoil.

The title Kitaab (meaning "book") symbolizes Babla's journey of learning—both the lessons taught in school and the harsh realities of life.

Themes:

Gulzar crafts a narrative that critiques the education system and the loss of innocence as one grows older. The film shows how Babla struggles to reconcile his imaginative and free-spirited worldview with the often harsh and unforgiving adult world. The story emphasizes how children, despite their naivety, have a keen understanding of their surroundings, even if their interpretations are different from those of adults.

Noteworthy Scenes:

  1. Babla's Escape into Imagination: In several sequences, Babla daydreams to escape the strictness of school life and the burdens of being "grown up." In one particularly memorable scene, he imagines the letters in his textbook coming to life, dancing around him. This whimsical portrayal of a child's mind captures the film's essence—his internal conflict between the freedom of imagination and the confines of reality.

  2. The Train Ride: A significant part of the film focuses on Babla's train journey from his home to the city. This journey is symbolic of his transition from childhood innocence to a more complicated world. The train ride also represents Babla’s internal journey, where he experiences moments of realization and confusion. The cinematography of the landscape passing by highlights his distance from the world he once knew.

  3. Babla's Confrontation with His Teacher: In a scene that reflects the flaws of the education system, Babla is reprimanded by his teacher for his poor handwriting and inability to conform to the structured demands of school life. This moment stands out as Babla’s first experience of how society’s institutions suppress creativity and enforce conformity. His frustration is palpable, and it echoes the emotional struggles many children face in academic settings.

  4. Climactic Breakdown: Toward the film's end, Babla has a breakdown after a series of misunderstandings with his sister and brother-in-law. In one emotionally charged scene, he runs away, expressing his frustration at how he feels ignored and misunderstood by the adults around him. The combination of his innocent grievances and the overwhelming pressure he faces from the world creates a powerful moment of empathy for his character.

  5. Final Sequence: In the closing moments of the film, Babla returns home, only to find that the "freedom" he longed for also has its limitations. He learns that adults are not as free as they seem—they, too, are bound by societal rules and expectations. The ending is bittersweet, leaving viewers with a sense of nostalgia for their own lost childhoods and a contemplation of how the adult world often stifles creativity and innocence.

Performances:

Master Raju Shrestha delivers a natural, engaging performance as Babla, bringing both charm and depth to the character. His portrayal of a child trying to understand the complexities of adult life is heartwarming and relatable. Vidya Sinha and Uttam Kumar, who play Babla's sister and brother-in-law, provide nuanced performances, representing the well-meaning yet flawed adult figures in his life.

Cinematography and Music:

The film’s cinematography by K. Vaikunth beautifully captures both the vibrant world of Babla's imagination and the more mundane reality of the adult world. R.D. Burman’s music complements the film’s narrative, particularly the song "Dhanno Ki Aankhon Mein," reflecting Babla’s childlike wonder and joy. The melodies enhance the film's emotional depth, elevating its poignant moments.

Conclusion:

Kitaab is a thoughtful, layered film that explores the delicate transition from childhood to adulthood. Gulzar masterfully presents the inner workings of a child's mind, portraying the beauty and struggles of navigating a world that often overlooks the innocence and intelligence of children. It’s a timeless film that resonates with anyone who has ever felt the pangs of growing up.

What is Web 2.0 Tools ? - English Language Teaching

Hello Readers!

Web 2.0 Tools is the advanced version of Web 1.0. First and foremost let's get some idea about the word "Web". Web is a tightly connected word with internet. We know about WWW - World Wide Web, that contains millions of websites as a directory record.

Now let's see what is Web 1.0.
In the early years of 1990s, when computers were new and it was fascinating to see the "Hello World" in the CRT screens, it was difficult to access the internet and also difficult to have the luxury of even computer. During 90s or before 90s, much of HTML coding skills and technical knowledge about computer language was required in order to add content to the web pages. This was the time of Web 1.0 when internet and web browsing was limited to only specific class of people. Back then, internet web was also called as "Read Only Web". The flow of content was in one direction which is top to down. Knowledge and content was made available on web by developers and masses used to read whichever is on the internet.

But within a decade, internet started changing drastically. It was a big transformation took place in terms of adding content to the web pages online. As a result, a new generation of web based tools emerged which are now called as Web 2.0 Tools.

There are several examples of Web 2.0 Tools.

Annotation from Coursera MOOC

Blogger (1999), Gmail(2004), Facebook(2004), Twitter(2006), Flickr, LinkedIn, YouTube(2005), Yahoo! (1994), Wikipedia(2001) are the popular Web 2.0 tools.

These Web 2.0 tools allowed anyone with an internet connection to create and upload content to the web at a very low cost, even free.

There are many other tools categorized base on the needs of people. There are eight/8 categories of Web 2.0 Tools.
1. Communication Tools - Yahoo mail, Gmail, Skype, MSN, Hangouts, etc.
2. Collaborative Tools - Google Slides, Google Foms, Docs, Jamboard, Sheets etc.
3. Creativity Tools - Blogger, Wordpress, Penzu etc.
4. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Tools - Wordle, Pedlet
5. Social Networking Tools - Facebook, Twitter, Orkut(2004), WhatsApp(2009)
6. Presentation - SlideShare, Scribd
7. Reflection and Feedback - Kahoot!, Mentimeter etc.
8. Productivity - Google Sites, Blogger, Wikipedia, Quora

Now let's see what are the tools that can help learn English Language.

Role of Teachers and Learners - ELT Thinking Activity

Hello Readers!

English Language Teaching helps a teacher to know about the linguistic barriers, limitations of teaching English as a second language and gives research outcome from various theorists and essayists. In this blog we shall see some roles of teachers and learners. Both, qualities and roles are mentioned. Because in order to play certain role one has to have some basic qualities.

Role of Teacher

1. Convincing -  One has to be convincing while teaching. With fair logics, arguments and facts a teacher should be well equipped to convince the students.

2. Peacemaker - Peace in terms of remaining neutral while maintaining a teacher-student relation. A teacher also should solve the disputes and difficulties of students. It is necessary to maintain the decorum of the classroom. Problem solving skill is also helpful in peacemaking.

3. Listener and Counsellor - One of the major roles of teachers. Completing syllabus is not the only duty for a teacher but also listening to students external problems related to social and personal life also. One can find a danger of diversion of mind in this role but it's a duty for a teacher to observe the youth temper and cover the minor yet important issues during the explanation of a topic, so that students can get the clear idea of life.

4. Communicative - Communication helps in building a rapport /ræˈpɔː(r)/ with students. One should keep on talking to students to bring the best out of them.

5. Lively and Dynamic Personality - A must have quality in a teacher. Because before a teacher start speaking, personality speaks. Handling a perfect body posture and putting certain gestures while teaching a necessary part of teaching process. It is also helpful in carrying out the non-verbal communication.

6. Open to Change - A teacher should welcome new and innovative changes in teaching. One should also broaden the vision and look for the helpful tools in teaching. ICT - Information and Communication Technology is the best example to mention. Using technology in education is itself a welcome change. Being a teacher, one should not leave the role of learner also. Being a lifelong learner ignites the passion towards teaching.

Role of Learner

1. Observer - A learner's first role is to observe several incidents, current affairs. Reading is the sub-quality of observation. Learner should be well aware about various circulars, schemes and aids, conveyed and offered by educational institutions. The habit of observation also help a learner in bifurcating unnecessary elements which are barrier in learning.

2. Listener and Questioner - Actively listening to teacher and asking apt questions during the discussion helps develop the better and clear idea about the topic. It builds a curiosity also.

3. Dedication - Works to be done in given time. Learner's hundred percent involvement in doing all the tasks and activity is one of the most expected quality.

4. Responsible to Studies - Learner should prioritize the works and assignment given by teachers. Paying attention to every point made by the teacher and reflecting upon them is a part of active participation in classroom interaction. This responsible behavior carries out a good exposure and confidence about that particular topic.

5. Collaborator - A learner is not a lone walker in a path of learning. One should interact with peers and classmates to collaborate and engage in activities carried out as part of any topic. Working in groups, forming a team and accomplishing a task together is also a part of teamwork skills.

6. Decision Maker - Making a right choice at a right time is also important for a learner. At times a learner has to select either of the methods of learning. Especially when a learner is from another state or a country.

7. Integrity - Learner should be honest about their work, ideas and thoughts. In academics, integrity is a synonym to best quality work. This quality should be practiced among the learners right from the school education. Whichever ideas and thoughts are taken from the sources should be well cited. For example, several ideas written in posts of this blog might be taken and used somewhere else. In this case maintaining integrity is necessary.

Digital Humanities - Learning through Technology

Hello Readers!

In this age of information and communication technology (ICT), the use of digital platforms has been increased significantly. While thinking of education and learning process, one can hardly keep the technology aloof. Earlier it was only pen and paper based learning but in that process, technology has entered and played a role of a game changer. There are several digital tools and platforms which play very vital role in the learning process. WhatsApp has become important medium for communication and sharing ideas among the students. Teacher can also keep the students updated with lot many learning nuggets and current happening in and around the world. WhatsApp Messenger was found in 2009. Facebook also is very useful to share various educational activities and academic progress. It was found in February 2004. Apart from sharing photos of picnic and food, it is also a good platform to showcase the academic achievements of any educational institution. If the teachers are keen to work with technology, if they are ready to accept the changes of learning methods, students will automatically adapt this creative and innovative method.

This blog throws some light on the aspects that teachers and students need to see for better improvements in learning and teaching. Here are the blog links provided by the Head of the Department of English, Dr Dilip Barad who relentlessly works on utilizing technology into education.

1. Define Digital Humanities?

- Digital Humanities. The word itself seems to carry two opposite words. Digital refers to some firm and controlled systems. Humanities connotes with liberal thought. But the mixture of these two words has some meaning in the world of technology.  2. What is it doing in English Departments? Write any three reasons out of six given in the article by Matthew G. Kirschenbaum.

The extracts given below best describe the importance of digital humanities in the English Departments.

Since the inception of the computer, text has been easy to input into computers and easy for computers to manipulate. Computers have therefore been a part of English studies for a long time, particularly in the areas of stylistics, linguistics, and composition.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the personal computer and the development of the commercial web gave rise to experimental writing (hypertext fiction) and scholarly efforts to digitize and archive canonical text (such as the Rossetti Archive). The study of hypertext fiction and digital archives has been conducted largely from within English departments.

The last decade has seen an explosion of interest in e-books, e-readers, and massive-scale textual digitization projects, reinforcing the close connection between digital technology, reading, and textuality (6)

3. Do you think there is any need of it in the study / research of literature?
Digital Humanities are needed in the English departments because nowadays many books and printed articles have been digitized. It becomes easy to search the old print of the book within seconds. Students as well as research scholars can take benefit of digital library to access some costly books and read online also.
4. Can it help in study / research of regional literature written in local languages (i.e. Hindi, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu etc) as it helps in the study of literature in English?

- There are many translation machines are available on web platform. They are of good help in translating any language into others. Blogging has become popular among various
